Job Description

Fluid Domains is seeking an Intermediate Groundwater Modeller to join our team in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The successful candidate will contribute to a range of hydrogeological modelling projects. Responsibilities include developing scripts to manage data, models, and model predictions; participating in all aspects of numerical modelling (data processing, model construction, calibration, predictive simulations, and uncertainty analysis); interacting directly with clients; and preparing technical reports.

Fluid Domains is a boutique consulting firm located in downtown Calgary. We provide hydrogeological and numerical modelling services to a wide range of sectors, including energy, municipalities, mining, consulting firms, and expert testimony. We focus on delivering high-quality technical work and continually improve our methods by adopting approaches from peer-reviewed research and by developing our own tools and solutions.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

• University degree in hydrogeology, geophysics, or a related field.
• Experience with, or interest in, working with Python and SQL.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong motivation to produce high-quality technical work.
• Interest in learning from and contributing to a team of experienced modellers.
• Eligibility to work in Canada.

The ideal candidate would have many, or all, of the following qualifications:

• 1–5 years of consulting experience, including some field experience.
• Graduate degree in hydrogeology, geophysics, or a related field.
• Academic background in numerical modelling.
• Academic background in nonlinear inversion.
• Strong coding aptitude.
• Knowledge of geostatistics.
• Experience related to water supply, wastewater disposal, solute transport, multiphase flow, or carbon sequestration.
• Eligibility for professional membership with APEGA.
